Everything You Need to Know about the Cavachon

The Cavachon is a designer breed that is a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This cross allows for a friendly, small puff of joy!

Cavachon’s are rapidly growing in population! It’s now more common than ever to see a second generation Cavachon. When the breed was first created, it was the product of breeding a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Now, with there being so many of them, we are able to breed two Cavachon pups together to get a second generation! Be sure to note that regardless of what two breeds are bred, the Cavachon is not a purebred dog.

If you’re wondering what has led to their growing popularity, there are many answers, but the biggest demand is their personalities! The Cavachon is known for their gentle, accepting, and tolerant personalities. These accepting characteristics make for a very social dog breed as well! They would prefer to be in the company of other dogs or people rather than finding a spot where they can be alone.

Another factor in their current popularity is that they are hypo-allergenic and hardly shed. That makes them great for people who suffer from any sort of allergies. Cavachon’s tend to have short, soft, silky coats with slight waves. Standard colors include: white, apricot, white, and white with black or tan markings.

These popular pups are generally very energetic but not at all hyperactive. They are, however, better than most breeds at entertaining themselves. This can ease some of the burden off of a less-than-active owner.

This list just keeps going on...want to know something else that’s great about Cavachons? They are almost always healthy! This breed does not have any serious health problems. As long as your pup is given a healthy diet, regular checkups and some exercise, you are not very likely to come into contact with any issues.

There are two basic sizes for Cavachons: Toy (10-15 pounds) and Standard (15-22 pounds). Both are considered to be a part of the "small dog" category, which makes them a nice choice for people who live in small apartments or houses, as well as for people who travel extensively in recreational vehicles. They weigh about 10-18 pounds and only stand about 12 inches tall! They originated in Afghanistan and have an 8-12 year lifespan.

Does reading this make you want to add a Cavachon pup to your family? If the answer is no, look up a few pictures of Cavachon puppies and then come back to this page! If you’ve decided you need one without looking at additional pictures, head over to our site and look at That Doggy in the Window’s selection of Cavachon pups!
